HADLEY, Mass. – Seniors Mike Queenan and Colin Mattox of Wesleyan University men's crew, and seniors Ava Miller-Lewis and Annalee Holmdahl of women's crew, were named to the 2017 NESCAC Men's and Women's Rowing All-Conference Teams, as announced by the league office today.
The 10-member squads are comprised of individuals from the eight league teams based on each team's finish at the NESCAC Championships, which are held in conjunction with the National Inviational Rowing Championship.
Queenan picked up his third All-NESCAC honor of his career. He was also named a First Team selection as a junior in 2016, and received Second Team praise as a sophomore in 2015. Mattox claimed his third all-conference accolade as well. He was a First Team selection in both 2016 and 2015.
Men's crew enjoyed a successful 2016-17 season. In the fall, the Cardinals won their first race of the year as they took first out of eight Varsity 8 boats at the Riverfront Recapture Regatta. Wesleyan also finished 5th-of-21 at the Head of the Fish Regatta, and defeated Williams in its head-to-head matchup to give the Cardinals' V8 the Little Three title.
On the women's side, Miller-Lewis and Holmdahl each claimed their first All-NESCAC honors of their careers after guiding Wesleyan to another historic season.
The Cardinals were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the country for the majority of the year, and currently sit at No. 6 in the final USRowing/CRCA Coaches Poll. During the fall season, Wesleyan won all three regattas it competed in, including the Head of the Charles and the Head of the Fish. In the spring, the Cardinals picked up right where they left off and defeated rival Williams in its head-to-head matchup for the first time since 1999. With the win, the Varsity 8 claimed the Little Three title. The following race, Wesleyan placed second at the New England Rowing Championships, and for the second consecutive season, the Cardinals' V8 boat earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Rowing Championship.
