Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team Praise; 10 Cardinals Named Scholar-Athletes

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – On Tuesday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2018 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes, and the Wesleyan programs were well represented. Both squads were named All-Academic Teams while registering five Scholar-Athletes each.

On the men's side, Steven Chen '18, Jonathan Holtzman '20, Andrew Finkelman '21, Marcus Sweeney '21 and Adrian Roji '21 were named Scholar-Athletes, while the women's program was represented by Helen Klass-Warch '18, Aashli Budhiraja '18, Nicole McCann '18, Victoria Yu '19 and Daniela Alvarez '21.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.0 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letter winner, 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year, and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The men will open the 2018-19 campaign on Friday, Sept. 21 with the three-day Quinnipiac Invitational while the women begin Friday, Sept. 14 with the three-day MIT Invitational.
