Regan and Johnson Named All-District and All-Region; Joe Reilly Named District 1 and Region 1 Coach of the Year

Cardinals (30-1) travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana for the Final Four this week

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's basketball team was well represented on the Division III National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District release as well as the D3hoops.com All-Region announcement, both made this afternoon by the respective outlet. Shane Regan '25 earned First Team All-District 1 and All-Region 1 honors. Nicky Johnson '25 is a First Team All-District and Second Team All-Region selection. Head coach Joe Reilly is the District 1 and Region 1 Coach of the Year.   Regan makes the All-District 1 First Team for the first time while Johnson is a two-time All-District honoree, having made the Second Team All-District 1 as a sophomore. Regan's First Team All-Region selection marks the second straight season he's earned the accolade while Johnson is a two-time All-Region honoree. Reilly previously won District 1 Coach of the Year in 2021-22 as this is his second career selection, while he earned the Region 1 Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.

Regan is the leading scorer on a 30-1 Wesleyan team that will be playing in the Final Four for the first time in team history. He puts up 18.1 points per game and ranks top 5 in the NESCAC in shooting percentage (50.4) and is second in the league in free throw percentage (86.5). Regan also ranks Top 10 in the conference in assists and leads the Cardinals with 58 offensive rebounds in 30 games played this season. Regan has scored in double figures in 26-of-30 games played this season while reaching the 20-point mark 15 times.

Johnson continues to add to what is one of the most-decorated careers in team history. The two-time All-Region selection, three-time All-NESCAC honoree, and All-American has shined once again as a senior, leading the team in minutes (31.2) while scoring 13.5 points per game on 45.3 percent shooting, 35.2 percent from three and 77.7 percent at the line. He's in his fourth straight season leading the NESCAC in assists (4.6) while he adds 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Johnson is the all-time assist leader (579) at Wesleyan and fifth in scoring (1419).

Now in his 17th season at Wesleyan, Reilly is a three-time NESCAC Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year recipient while he earned his 300th career win earlier this season. He's guided the Cardinals on a historic season that saw Wesleyan head into the year unranked, only to see his team go on a 26-game unbeaten run that culminated with the No. 1 national ranking. This Wesleyan team became the first NESCAC team to complete an undefeated regular season since the league because a formal playing conference and championships began in the 2000-01 season. Reilly's squad won the Little Three Championship, sweeping Williams and Amherst for just the second time since 1947-48.

Wesleyan (30-1) heads into the Final Four of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament, which will be held in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Cardinals square off against Trinity on Thursday in the national semifinal game at 5:30 PM (ET). Fans can watch live on ESPN+.
