Wesleyan Cruises to 10-4 Win Over Hamline in Spring Trip Finale

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wesleyan baseball team won its third-straight game, topping Hamline 10-4 in its spring trip finale on Friday. The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday when they entertain Eastern Connecticut at 4:00 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead when Andrew Keith scored in the bottom of the first, before a double by Danny Rose drove home Adam Geibel in the second for the 2-0 edge.
  • Hamline got back one run in the top of the fourth when Cullen Buck touched home.
  • In the Cardinal's half of the inning, Keith doubled to bring home Jamie Mills and Chase Pratt, extending the lead to 4-1.
  • In the top of the sixth, the Pipers cut the deficit to 4-2. With the bases loaded, Nolan Schoonveld crossed the plate on a single by Devin Rodgers.
  • Wesleyan increased its lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth when singles by Mills and Alex Cappitelli drove in two runs.
  • The Cardinals cracked the game open in the bottom of the eighth. With runners on first and second, a double by Cappitelli brought home Mills and Pratt, before Cappitelli later scored on a single by Andrew Kauf. Later, Keith touched home on a sacrifice fly by Geibel, making it 10-2.
  • The Pipers threatened in the top of the ninth with the bases loaded. Back-to-back singles by Zack Langton and Rodgers drove in two runs to make it 10-4, but a double play by the Cardinals on the next batter ended the contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Kelvin Sosa earned the win on the mound for Wesleyan, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six over five innings of work.
  • Keith went 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI, while Cappitelli went 2-5 with a double and three RBI for the Cardinals.
  • Schoonveld suffered the loss for Hamline, allowing four runs on three hits over four innings.
  • For the Pipers, Rodgers went 3-5 with two RBI.
