  • Wilson, Kaminski Named CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team

    Senior linebacker Shayne Kaminski and junior offensive lineman Joe Wilson of the Wesleyan University football team have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their excellence on the field and in the classroom, as they were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team. As first-team selections, Kaminski and Wilson are now eligible for the Academic All-America® Team ballot.
  • Cardinals Lose at Trinity, 28-3

    The Wesleyan University football team wrapped up its 2017 season Saturday as the Cardinals were defeated by Trinity College, 28-3, at Jessee/Miller Field. With the loss, Wesleyan finished its first nine-game season with a 6-3 record to complete its sixth-consecutive winning season. The Bantams defended their NESCAC title as they finished 8-1 on the year.
  • Week 9 Preview: Wesleyan (6-2) vs. Trinity (7-1)

    Wesleyan and Trinity will meet in the ‘Battle of the Birds’ this Saturday, Nov. 11 at Jessee/Miller Field in Hartford, Conn. to wrap up the 2017 season. The Cardinals enter the game with a 6-2 record while the Bantams boast a 7-1 mark. Trinity, however, is coming off its first loss in nearly two years as Amherst defeated the Bantams a week ago, 28-20, snapping a 16-game winning streak. Wesleyan is fresh off its most impressive all-around performance of the year as the Cardinals cruised past Williams on Homecoming/Family Weekend, 35-0.
  • Wesleyan to Host Third Annual ‘Battle of the Birds’ Luncheon

    On Wednesday, Nov. 8, Wesleyan University will host the third annual Wesleyan vs. Trinity ‘Battle of the Birds’ Luncheon at The Hartford Club from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Special guests will include NBC Connecticut sports anchor Joe D’Ambrosio as this year’s MC, as well as the 2017 team captains from both programs, and Cardinals’ Head Coach Dan DiCenzo and Bantams’ Head Coach Jeff Devanney.
  • Mark Piccirillo Named NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week

    Junior quarterback Mark Piccirillo of the Wesleyan football team was named the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance in the Cardinals’ 35-0 rout of Little Three archrival Williams on Saturday. Piccirillo was also named the co-offensive player of the week on Oct. 15.
  • Cardinals Cruise Past Williams on Homecoming Weekend, 35-0

    The Wesleyan University football team held Little Three archrival Williams College to just 127 total yards and only eight first downs as the Cardinals cruised to a commanding 35-0 win on Homecoming/Family Weekend at Corwin Stadium on Andrus Field Saturday.

    Saturday’s Homecoming/Family Weekend game marks the 123rd all-time meeting between Little Three rivals Wesleyan (5-2) and Williams (5-2). The Ephs hold a commanding 76-41-5 advantage in the series, but it’s been all Cardinals as of late, winning four-straight by a combined score of 124-35. Last year, Wesleyan took a 56-14 lead at halftime en route to a 59-14 win to claim the Little Three title outright for the second time in four years (2016, 2013).

  • Breuler Catches Three Touchdowns as Wesleyan Defeats Bowdoin, 21-10

    Senior wide receiver Mike Breuler secured three more receiving touchdowns Saturday to lead the Wesleyan University football team to a 21-10 win over Bowdoin College. He finished with seven catches for 96 yards and now has a league-high 10 touchdowns on the season. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 5-2 on the year while the Polar Bears remain winless at 0-7.
  • Week 7 Preview: Wesleyan (4-2) vs. Bowdoin (0-6)

    Saturday’s showdown between Wesleyan (4-2) and Bowdoin (0-6) will be the 90th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Cardinals holding a commanding 58-29-2 record in the series. Wesleyan has won five-straight against its rivals—including a 39-10 victory a year ago—with the Polar Bears’ last win coming in 2011 by a score of 12-6.
  • Wesleyan Comes Up Short on the Road Against Amherst, 21-17

    A late fourth quarter touchdown by Amherst’s Hasani Figueroa with 1:27 remaining on the clock gave the Mammoths a 21-17 win over the Wesleyan University football team Saturday afternoon on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium. With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 4-2 overall on the season. Amherst is now 5-1 following the win.
  • Piccirillo Named NESCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week

    Junior quarterback Mark Piccirillo of the Wesleyan University football team was named the NESCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance in the Cardinals come-from-behind win Saturday against Bates (41-23). Quarterback Bobby Maimaron of Williams College was the other recipient of the award. 
  • Wesleyan Rallies in Second Half to Defeat Bates, 41-23

    Trailing 23-21 at halftime, the Wesleyan University football team rallied in the second half en route to a 41-23 victory over Bates College Saturday afternoon at Corwin Stadium. The Cardinals’ defense held the Bobcats to only 43 yards in the final 30 minutes of action as they won their fourth consecutive game to improve to 4-1 this season. Bates remains winless and is now 0-5.

    Pat Dwyer is a true Connecticut native through and through. The oldest of five, he was born and raised in East Hartford where his father worked in a factory and his mother stayed home to raise the children. A three-sport athlete in his youth—baseball, basketball, football—he graduated from East Hartford High School in 1963.

    Wesleyan and Bates meet Saturday for the 36th time in the series history, which dates back to 1923. The Cardinals hold a commanding 31-4 record against the Bobcats and have won 11 straight, including a 28-7 victory a year ago. Bates (0-4) has not defeated Wesleyan (3-1) since 2005.

  • Cardinals Cruise in Second Half, Rout Colby 41-7

    Senior wide receiver Mike Breuler recorded his second 200-yard game this season as he pulled in 10 catches for 200 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Wesleyan University football team to a commanding 41-7 win over Colby College Saturday at Corwin Stadium. Additionally, junior quarterback Mark Piccirillo was terrific under center as he finished 21-of-26 for 324 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran 14 times for 77 yards.

    Saturday’s game marks the 40th meeting between Wesleyan and Colby, which dates back to 1927. The Cardinals (2-1) are riding a seven-game win streak against the Mules (0-3), and hold a 22-17 advantage in the series. Colby’s last win against Wesleyan was a 16-13 overtime victory in 2009.

    Dario Highsmith ’20 rushed 15 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns, while also catching five passes for 34 yards to help lead the Wesleyan University football team to a commanding 31-9 win on the road at Hamilton College Saturday.

Wesleyan is 28-17-1 all-time against Hamilton and 7-3 in the last 10 outings.

  • Piccirillo Leads Incredible Comeback as Wesleyan Defeats Tufts in Overtime, 24-17

    Trailing by 14 with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation, junior quarterback Mark Piccirillo help orchestrate an incredible comeback as the Wesleyan University football team defeated Tufts University Saturday night in overtime, 24-17. Piccirillo found senior captain Eric Meyreles in the corner of the end zone for a 24-yard score with :06 on the clock, and minutes later connected with senior Mike Breuler for a 14-yard game winning touchdown in OT. On the Jumbos’ ensuing possession, senior captain Shayne Kaminiski sealed the victory with an interception.
