HADLEY, Mass. – Junior quarterback Mark Piccirillo of the Wesleyan football team was named the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance in the Cardinals' 35-0 rout of Little Three archrival Williams on Saturday. Piccirillo was also named the co-offensive player of the week on Oct. 15.
The Shelton, Conn. native amassed 341 yards of total offense with four touchdowns and zero turnovers in the win over the Ephs. He finished 26-of-32 passing for 272 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, he was the team's leading rusher with 69 yards on 15 carries while also scoring twice.
Piccirillo has been shattering the Wesleyan record book this season, setting 10 new records and counting. In 2017—his second season as the team's starting QB—he has set records for points scored in a season (144), total touchdowns in a season (22) and career (42), touchdown passes (20), pass completions in a game (39) and season (204), passing yardage in a season (2,353), consecutive passes completed in a game (11) and season (11), and total offensive yardage (2,786).
The Cardinals wrap up the season next Saturday, Nov. 11 for a "Battle of the Birds" showdown against Trinity (7-1) at 1 p.m.
