Sophomore Tierney Behles second goal of the season leads Wesleyan University Field Hockey to a 1-0 win over visiting Colby College Oct. 10 at Smith Field. The win is head coach Patti Klecha-Porter's 200th career win, and it improves the Cardinals record to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in NESCAC play. The Mules drop to 6-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Klecha-Porter said after the game that: "The coaching staff is proud of the defense playing strong the entire game. We had solid goal keeping by Grundy, and bursts from the attack contributed to our win. We are looking forward to playing smart field hockey tomorrow against Middlebury."
The long goal of the contest came when senior Hannah Plappert got off a strong drive from the top of the circle and Behles attacked pads while the goalie was making a split save and powered into the far side. For Plappert, she raised her team leading point total to 15, with her fifth assist of the season to go along with her five goals. Behles now has four points on the year with her two goals.
Colby had most of the offensive chances by forcing eight penalty corners to the Cardinals zero, but Grundy turned away seven shots and was difference in the end.
Wesleyan continues conference action on Sunday Oct. 11, when they host Middlebury while the Mules are off until next Sat. Oct. 17 when they host Amherst College.
