MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for its outstanding academic achievement as a team, as it earned the 2016-17 Team Academic Excellence Award.
The fifth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards, created by the NABC Committee on Academics, honors teams in all divisions with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season. The Cardinals posted a 3.26 GPA, and were just one of four teams from the NESCAC to earn the award, joining Amherst, Hamilton and Trinity.
On the court, the Cardinals were equally as impressive as they finished 19-7 overall and 6-4 in league play, en route to a No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Tournament and their first ever at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
