MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University men's basketball team has been honored by the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association (CBOA) as it was named the recipient of the 2018-19 Sam Schoenfeld Sportsmanship Award.
"Wesleyan University and the Men's Basketball program would like to thank the CBOA for this prestigious award," said Head Coach Joe Reilly. "It is an appropriate opportunity to thank all officials and administrators who dedicate their time and energy to the great game of basketball, and provide our student-athletes with a first-class athletic experience."
Areas that were considered in the voting included sportsmanship on the part of the coach, players, and fans of each institution. The Cardinals will receive the award at the CBOA annual banquet scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Tropicana Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.
In addition to the team's excellent sportsmanship, Wesleyan also had another successful campaign on the court. The Cardinals finished 16-9 overall and 6-4 in the ultra-competitive NESCAC, earning the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament. It was the fifth-straight year that Wesleyan won at least 16 games in a season.
