2017 SPRING SEASON OUTLOOK

The Wesleyan University men's crew team opens its 2017 spring season this Saturday, March 25 at the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia, Pa. The Cardinals look to keep the momentum from the fall going as they opened the year with a first place finish at the Riverfront Recapture, and wrapped up the campaign by placing fifth out of 21 teams at the Head of the Fish.

COACHES CORNER WITH PHIL CARNEY

Head Coach Phil Carney is in his 30th season at the helm of the program, and will guide a roster that features five seniors, nine juniors, 11 sophomores and 10 freshman. Despite a young lineup, Wesleyan is loaded with experience, having lost just three seniors from last year's squad to graduation.

The Cardinals should build off an impressive 2016 spring season in which they finished fifth out of 24 teams at the New England Rowing Championships, and fourth out of 22 boats at the ECAC/New England Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC).

Following the Murphy Cup, the Cardinals will have a busy April with a regatta scheduled each Saturday. The team will compete in two tri-meets, two quad-races, and one dual-regatta against Williams. The New England Rowing Championships are scheduled for Saturday, May 6, while the ECAC/NIRC will take place Friday, May 12. Both regattas are held at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

HEAD COACH PHIL CARNEY

"We have had a great training trip in Florida and got in plenty of miles of preparation. The team is ready to go, and we can't wait to get racing tomorrow against some of the best crews we will see all year!"
