Men’s Varsity 8 Takes Fourth at New England Rowing Championships

The Lead: The Wesleyan University men's crew finished fourth out of six programs in the Varsity 8 grand final, while taking third of six in the Second Varsity 8 at the 2017 New England Rowing Championships on Saturday.

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Cardinals finished second out of six boats in heat three of the Varsity 8 with a mark of 6:45.142 to advance to the grand finals, where they finished fourth in 6:33.772. WPI won the event in 6:23.784, while Bates took second (6:27.578) and URI placed third (6:29.392).
  • In the third heat of the Second Varsity 8, Wesleyan finished second with a mark of 7:00.342 to advance to the grand finals. In the grand finals, the Cardinals finished third of six with a time of 6:54.061. Bates won the event with a mark of 6:46.619, followed by Coast Guard who placed second in 6:49.195.
  • The third varsity was cancelled due to weather.

  • The Cardinals return to Lake Quinsigamond Friday, May 12 for the ECAC/National Invitational Rowing Championships.
