WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wesleyan University golf team competed at the two-day Williams Spring Invitational this weekend at the Taconic Golf Club. It marked the Cardinals' first tournament of 2018 as they finished eighth overall.
Trinity won the eight-team tournament with a two-day team score of 598 (302-296). Middlebury took second (607) and Williams claimed third (621). The field also featured Hamilton (628), Amherst (644), Bowdoin (678), Bates (691) and Wesleyan (721).
Zach Lambros '17, G'18 led the way for the Cardinals as he posted a team-low 177 after carding an 87 on day one followed by a 90 on day two. The graduate captain finished 39th overall in the field.
Andrew Rachin '18, Elliott Witdorchic '20 and Brian Gerner '18 also scored under 185 for the tournament. Rachin shot an 87 on day one as well, but carded a 92 on Sunday to finish at 179. Witdorchic carded a 181 (89-92) and after a 99 on Saturday, Gerner shot the Cardinals' lowest score of the weekend Sunday with an 85, cutting six shots off his day one mark to finish with a 184.
Wesleyan has a quick turnaround and will host the Little Three Championship this Wednesday, April 25 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. The first tee time is scheduled for 8 a.m.
