MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Junior forward Dylan Holze of the Wesleyan University men's ice hockey team has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week for his spectacular performance in the Cardinals 5-4 upset win over second-seeded Colby College Saturday in the NESCAC Quarterfinals. Wesleyan, who entered the tournament ranked seventh in the conference, advanced to its first semifinals appearance since the 2010-11 season.
The Lynbrook, N.Y. native totaled three points on two goals and one assist, all in the second period. He evened the score twice with goals at the 5:22 and 16:52 marks. His assist on a Tyler Wyatt '20 goal in the closing seconds of the period gave the Cardinals a 4-3 lead.
Holze led all players with two goals in the game, which gives him nine on the season and puts him in a tie for first on the team. His 20 points are third best, while his 11 assists rank fourth overall on Wesleyan.
The Cardinals will return to the ice on Saturday, March 4th as they head to Clinton, N.Y. to take on top-seeded Hamilton in the semifinals at 4:15 p.m. The last time these two teams met in the conference tournament, No. 8 Wesleyan upset the No. 1 seeded Continentals in the 2010-11 quarterfinals by a score of 5-2.
