BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore defenseman Chad Malinowski of the Wesleyan University men's ice hockey team has been named to the New England Hockey Writers Division II/III All-Star team as announced by the organization today.
Teams are voted on by Division II/III coaches and respective media outlets throughout New England. Recipients of the honor will be recognized at the New England Hockey Writers Banquet, which will be held on Tuesday, April 11th at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. at 6 p.m. Contact Geoff Dion at (781) 245-2122 or by email at email@example.com for information on attending this event. The Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. native was a big part of the Cardinals' defense, which was tops in Division III and the NESCAC on the penalty kill, killing off 76-of-83 penalties (91.6%). Their defense was fifth best overall in the conference, allowing just 2.50 goals per game. Malinowski was also a key contributor on the offensive end, finishing fourth in the league in scoring by a defenseman, notching 19 total points (4g, 15a). His 15 assists ranked second on the team while his 19 points were fourth best.
Wesleyan finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 13-9-4 record, which tied the 1988-89 team for most wins in a season. The Cardinals also made their second NESCAC Semifinals appearance, and captured the Little Three title outright for the first time since 1986-87.
