MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Seven members of the defending national champion Wesleyan men's lacrosse team have been named 2019 NEILA All-New England Preseason Team selections, as announced by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
Headlining the group are First Team honorees, seniors Christian Barker (Attack) and Carter Hawthorne (Midfield), and juniors Otto Bohan (Goalie) and Colin Malarchuk (Defense). Additionally, junior Zach Zavalick (Face-off Specialist) and sophomores Ronan Jacoby (Attack) and Sean Penney (Short Stick Defense) were named to the Second Team.
Tufts led all schools with nine selections, while Wesleyan and Amherst both had seven. All three programs had four First Team honorees.
Barker, Bohan, and Hawthorne were named NEILA All-New England Team selections last season, with Barker and Bohan earning First Team laurels and Hawthorne receiving Third Team honors.
The Cardinals rank No. 1 nationally in the USILA Coaches Poll and begin their title defense on Saturday, March 2 with a home game against Little Three rival Williams. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
