MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – After posting a five-point effort during a 2-0 week for the Wesleyan University men's soccer team, junior standout Komar Martinez-Paiz garnered NESCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the first time in his career, as announced by the league on Monday.

Martinez-Paiz registered the game-winning tally for the Cardinals (5-1-0, 1-1-0 in NESCAC) in the 26th minute during a 2-0 win over Vassar on Tuesday evening in Middletown, Conn. Sophomore forward Jack Wolf sent the ball over to Martinez-Paiz on the right attacking side just outside the box, and then he created some space off the dribble and launched a shot from the edge of the box into the right side of the net.

The 5-foot-6 midfielder had more to say this week, compiling a three-point performance with a goal and an assist during a crucial 4-2 NESCAC win over Bates on Saturday at Jackson Field. Martinez-Paiz sent an outstanding ball through the air into the box from the left side of the pitch, and then senior captain Nick Jackson finished off the play with a header goal in the 16th minute, giving the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead.

Martinez-Paiz then eliminated any chances of a Bobcats' comeback by stealing the ball from a Bates' defender, and then sending a rocket into the back of the net from straight on during the 90th minute.

The Pawtucket, R.I. native has performed at a high level all season for the Cardinals, leading the group in goals (two), assists (two), points (six) and shots (19), as Wesleyan maintains a 4-0 mark at home this fall.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Tuesday, as they welcome Tufts to Citrin Field for a 7:30 p.m. tilt in Middletown, Conn.
