Men’s Squash Defeats Stanford, Falls to Colby

The Lead: The No. 26 Wesleyan University men's squash team cruised to an 8-1 win over Stanford College in its first match of the Pioneer Valley Invitational, but fell to No. 23 Colby College later in the day, 8-1.

STANFORD / WESLEYAN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Wesleyan won the No. 1-7 positions, as well as the No. 9 spot.
  • In the top of the lineup, seniors Chris Hart, David Sneed and Zach Roach swept the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions, respectively. Hart won by scores of 11-6, 11-4, 11-6, Sneed earned wins of 11-2, 12-10, 11-3, and Roach claimed marks of 11-5, 11-5, 11-6.
  • Alex Kamisher '17 and Grant Lounsbury '17 each earned 3-1 victories. Kamisher won 11-6, 9-11, 11-3, 11-4 in the No. 4 position, and Lounsbury won by scores of 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-4 in the No. 5 spot.
  • Yahya Ladiwala '19, William Bienstock '20 and Kevin Le '19 each held on for 3-2 wins.
  • Ladiwala won by scores of 12-14, 11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 11-4 in the No. 6 position. Bienstock jumped out to a 2-0 lead (11-8, 12-10) before dropping two straight (12-10, 11-4), however he responded in the fifth set with an 11-9 victory. Le also led 2-0 (11-4, 11-9) before losing two straight (11-8, 11-6) and claiming an 11-7 win in the fifth.

COLBY / WESLEYAN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • In the second match of the day, Kamisher picked up the lone Wesleyan win by default in the No. 4 position.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cardinals return to action tomorrow, Jan. 22 and will play Hamilton at 12 p.m. at Smith College.
