Choi Competes at CSA Individual Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Sean Choi of the Wesleyan men's squash team reached the Consolation Semifinals of the Molloy Cup (B Division South) at the 2019 College Individual Championships. The national tournament is taking place at the Nicol Squash Club at Moses Brown School. Choi went 1-1 on Friday but lost in the Consolation Semifinals today to end his impressive sophomore season.

A 2019 First Team All-NESCAC selection, Choi earned the No. 14 seed in the Molloy South Cup and was paired against 13th-seeded Grant Sterman of Brown on Friday in the Round of 16. Sterman won in three sets by scores of 11-9, 11-6, 11-4.

With the loss, Choi dropped to the consolation bracket and faced 15th-seeded Callum Sondhi of Hamilton on Friday evening. He swept his NESCAC rival with scores of 11-5, 11-7, 11-4.

The win advanced Choi to the Consolation Semifinals late Saturday morning as he went up against 11th-seeded Filip Krueger of Drexel. Krueger took the match in three sets, 11-7, 12-10, 11-3.

Choi's impressive season comes to an end. In two years at Wesleyan, he has competed in two individual national championships, won the 2018 NESCAC Rookie of the Year award, and was named a First Team All-NESCAC selection this season.
