MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Senior Ali Pourmaleki of the Wesleyan University men's swimming & diving team placed first overall in the 100 and 200 backstroke events with times of 53.45 and 1:56.50, respectively, as the Cardinals fell to Connecticut College, 190-66, on Friday evening at the Wesleyan Natatorium in Middletown, Conn.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman Phillip Wong earned a second-place nod in the 400-yard individual medley (4:19.94), while also checking in at the No. 2 slot in the 100 backstroke (53.91). Wesleyan took home the top-three spots in the 100 backstroke, as sophomore Quinn Tucker garnered third-place recognition (55.32).
- Junior Alex Kapphahn posted a well-rounded performance for Wesleyan, earning a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.77, and he also grabbed third-place accolades in the 200 freestyle (1:48.21).
- The Cardinals additionally grabbed a pair of second-place efforts on the relay side. Senior Spencer Tang, Kapphahn, Pourmaleki and Tucker were the second team to touch the wall during the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.51. That same group of men then rattled off a second-place finish during the 200 freestyle relay, clocking a time of 1:26.94.
- The Cardinals will honor their seniors on Saturday in Middletown, Conn., as the group will compete against Coast Guard Academy and Fairfield, starting at 1 p.m.
