  • Finkelman & Lilienthal Garner ITA Northeast Praise

    TEMPE, Ariz. – Andrew Finkelman and Noah Lilienthal earned NCAA Division III Regional praise as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Tuesday evening. The institution announced regional award winners for: Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year, ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Player to Watch, ITA Most Improved Senior, ITA Senior Player of the Year and ITA Community Service Award, with the national award winners being announced on May 20th at the awards banquet in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
  • No. 5 Cardinals Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals with 5-2 Triumph Over No. 11 Kenyon in Regional Final

    BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 5 Wesleyan men’s tennis team is headed to Michigan, as they booked a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals with a 5-2 win over No. 11 Kenyon on Sunday. The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead after doubles with wins at #1 and #2 and in singles jumped out to a 4-1 advantage thanks to quick victories from Andrew Finkelman and Noah Lilienthal. Kenyon would make a comeback push with a win at #2, but the Cardinals clinched the match at #4, where Adrian Roji put an end to the five-hour competition with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph.
  • No. 5 Men’s Tennis Eases Past John Carroll 5-0; Advances to Regional Final

    BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 5 Wesleyan men’s tennis team started its second NCAA Tournament appearance in exactly the same fashion as its initial appearance two years ago. The Cardinals topped John Carroll 5-0 to advance to the NCAA Regional Final on the courts of host Johns Hopkins. This time around, however, there were a number of new faces helping the Cardinals advance, with only two returning players from the 2017 squad (Princeton Carter and Jonathan Holtzman).

    MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – First-year Noah Lilienthal was named NESCAC Rookie of the Year, while Adrian Roji, Andrew Finkelman and Peter Anker each earned All-NESCAC laurels, as voted on by the league’s coaches and announced by the conference office on Friday.
  • No. 5 Men’s Tennis Heads to Johns Hopkins for NCAA Regional

    MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – For just the second time in program history, the No. 5 Wesleyan men’s tennis team has advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament, as the Cardinals earned an at-large bid. Wesleyan will travel to No. 24 Johns Hopkins and have a first-round bye, before taking on the winner of the John Carroll/Franciscan matchup on Saturday.

The second-seeded Cardinals had a bye in the first round, while the third-seeded Panthers downed sixth-seeded Tufts, 5-3 on Friday. Middlebury will face top-seeded Amherst in the Championship on Sunday, while Wesleyan will wait to hear about their NCAA tournament fate.

    MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 5 Wesleyan men’s tennis team (14-3, 7-2) returns to the NESCAC Championship tournament for the fourth-straight year and as the second seed, will have a bye in the first round. The Cardinals begin play on Saturday with a semifinal matchup against Friday’s winner of the third-seed Middlebury and sixth-seed Tufts contest. The Championship weekend is hosted by Middlebury College and will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The mid-week match featured a different lineup for the Cardinals, but with results just as comprehensive as ever, as Wesleyan cruised to a doubles sweep and rolled through the majority of the singles.

    MIDDLETOWN, Conn.— The No. 5 Wesleyan men's tennis team scored a huge win on Sunday against Little Three rival No. 7 Amherst, topping the Mammoths 6-1 in one of its best performances of the year. Sophomores Andrew Finkelman and Marcus Sweeney won a critical tiebreak at third doubles to put the Cardinals up 2-1. From there, Wesleyan never looked back, playing excellent singles to win the first four matches, before the overall match was called before 5 and 6 singles were played. With the victory, the Cardinals move to 11-3 (4-2 NESCAC), while Amherst drops to 13-3 (5-1 NESCAC).

The Cardinals are 4-0 on the year with four wins in four days during their spring break trip. With the loss, the Tartans fell to 5-6 with their third-straight defeat.

  • Men's Tennis Competes at ITA Regional Championships

    Freshman Peter Anker led the way for Wesleyan at the ITA Regional Championships, making the quarterfinals in doubles alongside sophomore Zach Fleischman as well as winning a pair of singles matches to make the third round. It was only Anker’s second tournament as a Cardinal, but the Norwegian established himself as a threat in both singles and doubles.
