MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University men's and women's track & field programs were named 2017 USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams, while Molly Schassberger '17, Jenny Aguiar '19 and Casey Rothschild '20 were named All-Academic Individuals, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
In order to earn All-Academic Team honors, a program must have posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher. In all, 111 men's teams and 183 women's teams were honored by the USTFCCCA for success in the classroom and in competition.
The women earned praise for the seventh year in a row, as they compiled a 3.61 cumulative GPA, while the men were named an All-Academic Team for the sixth straight year with a GPA of 3.36.
To qualify for individual honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher, and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- Competed in a NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
- Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
For Schassberger (10,000), the All-Academic honor marks the second consecutive of her career, while Aguiar (400) and Rothschild (triple jump) both claimed their first.
