HADLEY, Mass. – Senior forward Maddie Bledsoe of the Wesleyan University women's basketball team has been named a 2018 All-NESCAC Second Team selection, as voted on by the conference coaches and announced Wednesday by the league office.
Bledsoe had a breakout senior campaign for the Cardinals in which she averaged a double-double with 10.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. The Newton, Mass. native led the NESCAC in rebounding for the majority of the season, by a significant amount, and her average in conference games was even more impressive (11.3). She leads the league in offensive (83), defensive (183) and total rebounds (266), and her average of 10.6 rebounds per game ranks 48th in the country.
Bledsoe, who was recently named a CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team selection, also averaged 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game, and was named the NESCAC Player of the Week three times this season. She recorded eight double-doubles and registered double-digit rebounds in 15 of the team's 25 games. Bledsoe also recorded career highs of 21 rebounds in a game twice. In an 88-76 win against Westfield State on Dec. 2, she scored 18 points and pulled in 21 boards and on Jan. 20, she helped guide the Cardinals to a 69-64 win over Connecticut College with 19 points and 21 rebounds.
The senior is the first women's basketball all-conference selection since 2008-09. After posting a 7-15 record a year ago, Bledsoe helped turn the program around as the Cardinals finished 17-8 and reached the NESCAC Semifinals as the No. 5 seed.
