  • Ryan Earns Two More Rookie of the Year Awards, Berger Selected to Play in Senior All-Star Classic

    First-year guard Caleigh Ryan of the Wesleyan women's basketball team has been named the 2019 New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Year, as voted on by NEWBA-member coaches, as well as the 2019 D3hoops.com Northeast Region Rookie of the Year, as voted on by Sports Information Directors. Additionally, senior forward Tara Berger was selected to play in the NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic which will take place Saturday, March 23 (1 p.m.) at Springfield College.

    First-year guard Caleigh Ryan of the Wesleyan women’s basketball team was named the 2019 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, as voted on by the league’s coaches and announced Wednesday by the conference office. Ryan is the second Cardinal to earn the award and first since 2006, joining Ali Fourney ’09.

    The Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (14-10, 4-6 NESCAC) has earned the seventh-seed in the 2019 NESCAC Championships and will play at second-seeded Amherst College (22-2, 9-1 NESCAC) on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals on Feb. 23 at the highest remaining seed in the tournament, with the finals set for Feb. 24.

    Olivia Gorman made Wesleyan women’s basketball history on Saturday afternoon as she became just the 12th Cardinal all-time to score 1,000 career points, recording a team-high 23 in a 92-75 loss at No. 1 Bowdoin College in the regular-season finale.

    Olivia Gorman scored a game-high 23 points and Tara Berger recorded a double-double with 21 and 15 rebounds to help lead the Wesleyan University women’s basketball team to a 78-59 win over Colby College Friday night. With the win, the Cardinals secured a spot in the NESCAC Tournament. They are now 14-9 overall and 4-5 in league play. Colby drops to 10-13 and 2-7 in the league.

    The Wesleyan University women’s basketball team cruised to a commanding 93-42 win over Vermont Tech on Tuesday night in its regular-season home finale. Tara Berger led the team with 15 points, in just 14 minutes of action, while going a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor and grabbing eight rebounds.

However, the Cardinals outscored the Bobcats 21-4 in the final 8:32 en route to a 67-42 win on Friday night in Silloway Gymnasium. Tara Berger and Caleigh Ryan each recorded a double-double for the home team.
