CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wesleyan University women's crew excelled at the 2017 Head of the Charles Regatta Sunday. The defending champions placed second overall out of 26 boats in the Women's Collegiate Eights as they finished the 4,800-meter course in a time of 16:18.045 on the Charles River.
Bates College, the defending NCAA Champions, won the event with a time of 16:01.182. The Cardinals finished well ahead of Little Three rival Williams who placed third overall with a mark of 16:34.657, while Ithaca took fourth in 16:35.965. Bates' 'B' boat rounded out the top-five with a time of 16:38.033.
Wesleyan also competed in the Women's Collegiate Fours Sunday and finished 14th out of 36 boats. The Cardinals crossed the finish line in 19:04.063. The University of the New Hampshire won the event (18:20.141) followed by Lafeyette (18:23.429) and Vermont (18:24.371).
On Saturday, the Women's Club Fours finished 21st in the 53-boat field with a time of 19:47.525. The top three boats in the event were Division I programs Alabama (18:02.402), Penn (18:25.713) and Tennessee (18:28.295).
The Cardinals wrap up the 2017 fall season next Saturday (Oct. 28) at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga, N.Y.
