SARASOTA, Fla. – The Wesleyan University women's crew team posted a first-place finish in the Division III-I Eights Repechage during first-day action on Friday at the NCAA Division III Women's Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Fla., as the Cardinals will compete in the grand final of two events on Saturday morning.
- In the Division III-I Eights races at the Nathan Benderson Park, the Cardinals turned to their outstanding lineup, featuring Rachael Crunkleton '20, Sarah Osborn '19, Clara Babbott-Ward '20, Lydia Paddock '21, Sonja Welch '20, Sophia Shoulson '18, Allison Quintana '19, Amanda Molitor '18 and Rachelle Flowers '19. The unit compiled a time of 6:36.661 during the Eights Repechage in the afternoon, keeping a safe distance from second-place Pacific Lutheran (6:38.364).
- That same group of nine women tallied a third-place effort during Heat 1 of the Division III-I Eights in the morning, clocking a time of 7:00.864.
- During the second heat of the Division III-II Eights, Wesleyan's boat consisted of Nicole Rizzuto '20, Emma Porrazzo '19, Hannah Xu '20, Nicole Gershberg '18, Josie Catalano '21, Sofia Headley '21, Eleanor Highleyman '19, Jemma Blazina '20 and Monica Rao '19. The lineup earned a second-place finish (7:15.100) out of four teams, crossing the finish line 4.135 seconds ahead of third-place Pacific Lutheran. Williams won the race with an impressive time of 7:06.455.
- The Cardinals will compete in second-day action at the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships on Saturday, as the unit will take its talents to the Division III-II Eights Grand Final (8:34 a.m.) and the Division III-I Eights Grand Final (8:42 a.m.).
