Renee Jones enters her second season on the Cardinals' staff in 2017-18, and brings over 20 years of experience to Wesleyan. In 1988, she started rowing for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she grew a strong passion for crew. In 2000, she launched an outreach rowing program in Norwalk, Conn. called “Reach Out and Row” which is still thriving today. In 2005, Jones designed a competitive Master's rowing program for Riverfront Recapture, Inc., which has grown to be one of the fastest Master's programs in New England. Her strong commitment and expertise with the team brought many local and national titles to the club.
In 2015, Trinity College announced the promotion of Jones to Interim Head Coach after serving three years as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Jones guided the Trinity novice eight to a first-place finish at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Regatta in her first season. In 2014, she led the novice boat to an undefeated year and the second varsity 8 to a silver medal at the 2014 NCAA Championships. In 2015, she coached the third varsity 8 to a silver medal at ECAC’s and the second varsity 8 to a third place finish in the 2015 NCAA Division III Championship Regatta. In 2016, the varsity eight finished fifth in the New England Rowing Championships and sixth in the grand final of the National Invitational Rowing Championship Regatta.
Jones, who earned a bachelor's degree from UT-Chattanooga in Health/Physical Education, is on the Farmington Valley Rowing Association’s board and is a co-founder of the Power 10 Indoor Rowing Center in Avon, Conn. She is still actively competing as a Master's rower and resides in Granby with her husband, Chris and her three boys.
