The Lead: Behind two goals from Abby Rutt '17 and 27 saves from Allegra Grant '20, the Wesleyan University women's ice hockey team was able to shutout the Colby College Mules 3-0 on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cardinals got on the board early in the first period as Hailey Sholty '17 tipped in a Jess Brennan '17 shot on the power play and scored her third goal of the season at 2:04 in the period.
  • Later in the first, Rutt scored her first goal of the game, and second on the season, as she gathered the puck near center ice, skated past two defenders and got the shot past Colby's goaltender, Hailey Fine for the 2-0 Wesleyan lead at 16:08.
  • Rutt would seal the game for the Cardinals with her empty net goal at 18:53 in the third. Rutt took an Ellery Sarosi '17 pass and converted the score for her third goal on the year.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Grant notched her third win with the shutout victory.
  • Wesleyan outshot Colby 36-27, and held the home team to 0-3 with the extra skater.
