  • Six Cardinals Named to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll
    July 26, 2017
    Six members of the Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team were honored on the 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll for their performance in the classroom. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or great.

    Caroline Sgaglione ’19 of the No. 16 Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team was named a 2017 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Second Team All-American, as announced by the IWLCA.
  • Four Cardinals Named IWLCA All-Region Selections

    Seniors Rachel Aronow, Liana Mathias and Leah Giacalone, and sophomore Caroline Sgaglione of the Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team, were named to the 2017 Division III All-Region Teams, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). All four Cardinals are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Friday, May 19.
  • No. 16 Women’s Lacrosse Edged by No. 17 Ithaca in Overtime, 11-10

    Ally Runyon went the length of the field in the closing seconds of the first overtime and found the back of the net with :02 on the clock to lift the 17th-ranked Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team to a thrilling win over No. 16 Wesleyan University, 11-10, in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships.
  • Meredith Smith ’17 and Victoria Yu ’19 Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

    MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Senior Meredith Smith of the Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team and sophomore Victoria Yu of the women’s tennis team have been recognized for their stellar performances both academically and athletically, and were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

    The 16th-ranked Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team earned an at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships for the first time in program history, and is scheduled to host 17th-ranked Ithaca College in the second round on Sunday, May 14 at 1 p.m. on Smith Field.
  • Williams Named NESCAC Coach of the Year; Two Cardinals Earn All-Conference

    Following its best regular season in program history, Caroline Sgaglione ’19 and Rachel Aronow ’17 of the 17th-ranked Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team earned NESCAC All-Conference selections, while Head Coach Kim Williams was named the Coach of the Year, as announced Thursday by the league office and voted on by the league’s coaches.

  • Women’s Lacrosse Earns No. 5 Seed in NESCAC Championships, Faces Fourth-Seeded Colby Saturday

    After a historic regular season, in which the 17th-ranked Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team set program records in overall wins (11) and NESCAC wins (7), the Cardinals return to postseason play for the first time since the 2009 campaign. Wesleyan earned the No. 5 seed in the NESCAC Tournament and will play at fourth-seeded and nationally-ranked No. 6 Colby College Saturday, April 29 at 12 p.m.
  • No. 17 Women’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Conn. College, 18-10

    In its 2017 regular-season finale, the 17th-ranked Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team scored the first 12 goals of the game and took a 12-1 halftime lead over Connecticut College, en route to an 18-10 win Wednesday night. Liana Mathias ’17 scored a career- and game-high six goals to lead the way for the Cardinals.
  • No. 20 Women’s Lacrosse Cruises Past No. 18 Tufts, 15-8; Sets Program Record with 10th Win

    With a decisive 15-8 victory on Saturday, the 20th-ranked Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team set a program record with 10 wins, as it defeated No. 18 Tufts University for the first time since 2007. The Cardinals also set a program record with six conference wins as they improved to 6-3 in the ultra-competitive NESCAC.
  • Wesleyan Cruises to 14-7 Win Over No. 8 Bowdoin on Senior Day

    The Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team cruised to a commanding 14-7 win over No. 8 Bowdoin College Saturday, marking its first win against the Polar Bears since 2009. It was also the Cardinals’ third win over a top-15 team this season. Prior to the start of the game, Wesleyan honored its seven seniors – Rachel Aronow, Leah Giacalone, Meghan Kelly, Liana Mathias, Grace McCann, Becca Phillips and Meredith Smith.

    The Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team rallied from an early 4-1 deficit to defeat archrival Williams College Saturday afternoon, 11-6, to claim the Little Three Championship outright for the first time since 1982. Senior Liana Mathias led all players with six points (4g, 2a), while Abby Manning ’20 added four (3g, 1a) and Rachel Aronow ’17 tallied three (2g, 1a) to help lead the Cardinals to victory.

    The Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team never trailed Wednesday night as it defeated Little Three rival Amherst College, 9-4. Meredith Smith ’17 led the Cardinals with two goals and three assists, while goalie Grace McCann ’17 made seven saves on 11 shots.

Abby Manning ’20 scored five of her game-high seven goals in the final 30 minutes of regulation to help guide the Cardinals to victory. Her seven goals also tied the Wesleyan women's lacrosse program record.
