MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Caroline Sgaglione '19 of the No. 16 Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team was named a 2017 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Second Team All-American, as announced by the IWLCA.
Sgaglione is just the second Cardinal to ever earn national All-American praise from the IWLCA, and the first since 2005 when Becca Vogel '05 was named to the second team.
The sophomore defender excelled in her second season with the program and was also named a First Team All-NESCAC selection, and a First Team All-Berkshire Region honoree.
Sgaglione headlined Wesleyan's defense in 2017 and led the team in draws (46), caused turnovers (27) and ground balls (38). The Cardinals allowed just 8.15 goals per contest, and held opponents to single digits in 10 of their 17 games.
Sgaglione played a pivotal role in the team's success, as Wesleyan concluded its best season in program history with an 11-6 overall record and 7-3 NESCAC mark, which included its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Championships.
