Women’s Lacrosse Earns Academic Honors from IWLCA

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team was named a 2018 Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) today. Additionally, three Cardinals—Sara Bennett '18, Breanna Cavanaugh '19 and Caroline Sgaglione '18—were named to the Division III Academic Honor Roll.

To qualify for the prestigious Academic Honor Squad, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2017-18 academic year. To be named to the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Bennett (Economics/Data Analysis) was named to the honor roll for a second consecutive season, while Cavanaugh (Neuroscience/Biology) and Sgaglione (Government/Environmental Studies) were honored in their first year of eligibility for the award.

The 2018 Cardinals excelled in the classroom while also exceeding expectations on the field. Wesleyan registered its best season in program history with a 12-7 record, which included a trip to the third round of the NCAA Championships. The team's 12 wins were a program-best, while the wins over Messiah (13-10) and St. John Fisher (11-6) were their first-ever in the national postseason tournament.
