Wrestling Defeats Springfield Decisively, 36-8

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. ? The Wesleyan University wrestling team hosted its first dual-match of the 2015-16 season Saturday night and defeated Springfield College decisively, 36-8.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • With the win, the Cardinals improved to 8-5 overall this season in dual-matches.
  • The 125-pound weight class won the draw as Zachary Murillo '19 claimed a 7-4 decision over Joel Zambrano.
  • James Matias '19 increased the Cardinals lead to 6-3 with an 8-6 decision at 141 pounds.
  • Wesleyan also earned wins in the 157, 165, 174, 184, 197 and 285-pound weight classes.
  • Chris Siracusa '16 claimed a 12-0 major decision at 157.
  • Roy Forys '19 earned an 11-3 decision at 165 pounds.
  • Taran Carr '19 and Devon Carrillo '18 pinned their opponents in the 174 and 285-pound weight classes, respectively, while Isaiah Bellamy '18 claimed a forfeit at 197.
  • Additionally, Dominic Pirraglia '18 won a technical fail at 184 pounds.

  • Wesleyan is back in action Saturday, Feb. 6 and will head to Williams for dual-matches against Williams, SUNY-Oneonta and Ithaca College beginning at 12 p.m.
  • The Pride return to the mat tomorrow, Jan. 31 and will host TCNJ in a dual-match slated for 12 p.m.
