MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Senior captain Chris Siracusa of the Wesleyan University wrestling team was named the New England Wrestling Association Wrestler of the Week, as announced Tuesday morning by the NEWA.
Siracusa excelled on Saturday and went 3-0 at the Williams' quad meet as he continues to shine in his senior season. The 157-pounder from Sayville, N.Y. defeated Jon Berry of Williams by major decision, 10-0. In the following match, he claimed an 8-0 major decision win over Tom Marrone of SUNY-Oneonta, and ended the day with a 3-1 sudden victory over Eamonn Gaffney of Ithaca.
The Cardinals are 8-8 in dual matches this season and are ranked fourth in the New England Division III Poll. Siracusa is 24-5 overall in 2015-16.
Wesleyan returns to the mat Sunday, Feb. 14 and will host Lycoming and SUNY-Oswego beginning at 12 p.m.
