Siracusa, Carr named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. ? Senior captains Chris Siracusa and Taran Carr of the Wesleyan University wrestling team were named 2016 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans, while the Cardinals received academic team praise.

To be named to the NWCA academic squad, a student-athlete must carry a GPA of at least 3.20, and meet one of the following criteria: be a national qualifier with a winning record, a regional place-winner with a winning record, or have a season winning percentage of 67.0 or better. They must also have competed in at least half of the team's matches.

Siracusa and Carr excelled in their final seasons donning the Cardinal uniform. Siracusa posted an overall record of 30-7 in the 157-pound weight class, and finished fifth overall at the NCAA Regional Championships. Carr finished with a 30-10 mark at 174, and placed fourth at the regionals. Together, the duo helped Wesleyan post an 11-8 overall dual-match record in 2015-16.

The Cardinals also finished 24th in the team GPA rankings with a 3.15.
