  • Wesleyan Wrestling Receives Several NEWA and NWCA Postseason Honors

    Several members of the Wesleyan University wrestling team earned postseason awards this week as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) announced its end-of-the-year laurels and the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released its academic honors. Highlighting the list for the Cardinals on the mat were First Team All-NEWA selections Devon Carrillo ’17 and Isaiah Bellamy ’18, and Honorable Mentions Amir Daouk ’20, Zach Murillo ’19, James Matias ’19, Carter Armendarez ’18 and Dominic Pirraglia ’18. In addition, six Cardinals were named 2017-18 NWCA Scholar All-Americans, 14 were named to the Academic All-NEWA Team, and Wesleyan earned a NWCA Scholar Team award.
  • Bellamy and Carrillo Earn All-America Honors at NCAA Championships; Bellamy Places Third at 285

    Senior Isaiah Bellamy took third-place at 285 and graduate student Devon Carrillo claimed eighth at 197 as the Wesleyan University wrestling team finished 18th overall at the 2018 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the Cleveland Public Auditorium. By placing in the top-eight, both wrestlers earned All-America status to mark the first time in program history that the Cardinals had two All-Americans in the same year. Additionally, Bellamy’s third-place finish is the highest all-time at the national tournament by a Wesleyan wrestler.
  • Bellamy, Carrillo Advance to Quarterfinals of NCAA Tournament

    Senior Isaiah Bellamy and graduate student Devon Carrillo of the Wesleyan University wrestling team have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2018 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, while senior Dominic Pirraglia has been eliminated from the postseason. Bellamy, who went 2-0 earlier in the day, and Carrillo, who won his lone afternoon match, will compete in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. in the Cleveland Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • Three Wesleyan Wrestlers to Compete at NCAA Championships

    Three captains of the Wesleyan University wrestling team—Isaiah Bellamy ’18, Devon Carrillo ’17E and Dominic Pirraglia ’18—have qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division III Wresting Championships which will take place Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10 at the Cleveland Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio. Baldwin Wallace University and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will serve as the host for the national event.
  • Three Cardinals Qualify for NCAA Championships as Wesleyan Places Third at Regionals

    Graduate student Devon Carrillo and senior Isaiah Bellamy of the Wesleyan wrestling team continued their dominance this weekend at the 2018 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships hosted by WPI as the duo claimed the 197-pound and heavyweight titles, respectively, to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. Additionally, senior Dominic Pirraglia qualified as well by taking third-place in the 174-pound weight class as the trio helped the Cardinals take third overall in the 17-team field.
  • Wrestling to Compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at WPI this Weekend

    The Wesleyan wrestling team will compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Wrestling Championships on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the Sports & Recreation Center.
  • Tristan Stetson Wins 133-Pound Title at NEWA Futures Tournament

    Sophomore Tristan Stetson of the Wesleyan University wrestling team won the 133-pound title at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament hosted by Roger Williams University on Sunday.

    The Wesleyan University wrestling team is having an incredible 2017-18 season in large part to its dynamic duo of Devon Carrillo ’17E and Isaiah Bellamy ’18. The two have constantly dominated on the mats all season and currently rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the country, respectively, in pins.
  • Wesleyan Wrestling Goes 3-0 on "Senior Day"

    The Wesleyan University wrestling team went a perfect 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in Silloway Gymnasium with wins over AIC (47-9), No. 16 Brockport (27-11), and Norwich (43-9). Prior to today’s matches, the Cardinals honored their six-member senior class—Carter Armendarez, Isaiah Bellamy, Devon Carrillo, Ed Pierce, Dominic Pirraglia, and Matt Winchester.  
  • Carrillo Records Three Pins as Wrestling Goes 2-1

    Devon Carrillo ’17E was a perfect 3-0 on the day with three pins to lead the Wesleyan University wrestling team Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals went 2-1 in a quad-match at Silloway Gymnasium. Wesleyan began the day with a 26-14 win over archrival Williams College. After a 36-9 loss to No. 3 Ithaca College, the Cardinals responded by edging SUNY Oneonta, 22-20.
  • Wesleyan Defeats Springfield, 25-13
    January 27, 2018
    Tied at 13-13, Devon Carrillo ’17E and Isaiah Bellamy ’18 sealed the win for the Wesleyan University wrestling team with back-to-back pins as the Cardinals defeated Springfield College in their first home match of the 2017-18 season, 25-13.
  • Bellamy Leads the Country in Pins, Carrillo Ranks Fifth in Division III

    Isaiah Bellamy ’18 and Devon Carrillo ’17E of the Wesleyan University wrestling team are enjoying incredible seasons with a combined 48-1 record thus far. Additionally, Bellamy leads the country—in all divisions—with 16 pins while Carrillo ranks fifth in Division III with 13.
  • No. 18 Wrestling Places Seventh at NEWA Duals With 2-2 Record
    January 21, 2018
    Isaiah Bellamy ’18 of the 18th-ranked Wesleyan University wrestling team was named to the NEWA All-Tournament Team as he helped guide the Cardinals to a seventh-place finish at the 2018 NEWA Duals at the Providence Career & Technical Academy Sunday. Wesleyan went 2-2 on the day with wins over Trinity (43-5) and Springfield (22-18), while falling to No. 20 Coast Guard (23-22) and Southern Maine (22-18).
  • No. 18 Wrestling Goes 2-3 at Budd Whitehill National Duals

    The 18th-ranked Wesleyan University wrestling team went 2-3 in dual matches at the two-day Budd Whitehill National Duals hosted by Lycoming College. Amir Daouk ’20 highlighted the event for the Cardinals as he was named to the All-Tournament Team representing the 125-pound weight class, while Devon Carrillo ’17E and Isaiah Bellamy ’18 both went a perfect 5-0 this weekend.
  • Wrestling Claims Two Wins at Trinity Quad Match

    The 20th-ranked Wesleyan University wrestling team went 2-1 Saturday at Trinity College to open its 2017-18 dual match season. The Cardinals defeated the Bantams, 33-11, and 19th-ranked WPI, 22-21, and were edged by 18th-ranked Roger Williams, 22-18.
  • Wesleyan Wrestling Earns National Recognition, Ranks No. 20 in the Country

    The Wesleyan University wrestling team is off to a strong start to the 2017 season and is earning national recognition for its success as the Cardinals rank No. 20 nationally in the NCAA Division III polls. Additionally, Isaiah Bellamy ’18 is the No. 3 ranked heavyweight in Division III and Devon Carrillo ’18E is the fifth-ranked wrestler in the country at 197.

    Senior Isaiah Bellamy of the Wesleyan University wrestling team has been named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Co-Wrestler of the Week for his stellar performance at the RIT Invitational.
  • Cardinals Take Second at RIT Invite, Bellamy Named Most Outstanding Wrestler

    Isaiah Bellamy ’18 was named the 2017 Tony Wallace Award winner at the RIT Invitational Saturday, given to the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler, as he helped guide the Wesleyan University wrestling team to a second-place finish out of 11 teams. Bellamy, Devon Carrillo ’18E and Zack Murillo ’19 led the way for the Cardinals as they each won their respective weight class.
  • Wrestling Wins Doug Parker Invitational, Three Cardinals Claim First Place

    The Wesleyan University wrestling team won the Doug Parker Invitational Saturday, hosted by Springfield College, with an impressive 125 points and three first-place finishers. Carter Armendarez ’19 won 149, Devon Carrillo ’17E claimed 197 and Isaiah Bellamy ’18 won 285.
  • Wrestling Takes Sixth at Roger Williams Tournament

    The Wesleyan University wrestling team opened its 2017-18 season today at the 13-team Roger Williams Invitational and finished sixth overall with 109 points. Isaiah Bellamy ’18 highlighted the day by winning the 285-pound weight class while Devon Carrillo ’17E took second overall at 197.
  • 2017-18 Wesleyan Wrestling Season Preview

    The Wesleyan University wrestling team—ranked No. 2 in the NEWA Preseason Poll and No. 20 in the country—opens its 2017-18 campaign this Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Roger Williams Tournament, which features several top programs in the northeast, including No. 4 Messiah and No. 6 Johnson & Wales.
