Tristan Stetson Wins 133-Pound Title at NEWA Futures Tournament

BRISTOL, R.I. – Sophomore Tristan Stetson of the Wesleyan University wrestling team won the 133-pound title at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament hosted by Roger Williams University on Sunday.

The Cardinals finished eighth overall in the 12-team field with 29.5 points. Johnson & Wales won the tournament with 162 points, followed by WPI with 103.5 and Roger Williams with 81. Rounding out the top-five were Springfield (76) and Castleton (68.5).

Stetson was excellent as he went 4-0 with two pins. In the title match, he defeated Chris Caban of Johnson & Wales by a 13-3 major decision.

Also competing in the tournament were sophomores Aaron Cranston (165) and Krzysztof Nizielski (285), and freshmen Jason Fong (133), Andrew Hennessy (133), Harrison Karp (285) and Kasim Khan (133).

The Cardinals return to action this weekend and will compete in the two-day Northeast Regional Championships at WPI on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25.
