No. 20 Women's Squash Splits Pair of Matches

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The No. 20 Wesleyan University women's squash team split a pair of matches Friday against No. 27 Mount Holyoke (7-2) and No. 22 Colby (2-7) in day one action at the 2016 Pioneer Valley Invitational hosted by Amherst, Mount Holyoke and Smith.

NO. 20 WESLEYAN 7, NO. 27 MOUNT HOLYOKE 2
In its first match of the day, the Cardinals defeated the host school, Mount Holyoke, by a score of 7-2. Laila Samy '18 swept the No. 1 court (11-4, 11-4, 11-2), and Liza Bayless '16 won 3-0 in the No. 2 spot (11-5, 14-12, 11-9). 

Wesleyan also grabbed wins from the middle of the lineup as Tatum LeClair '18 and Abigail Smith '17 won 3-1 (11-8, 11-9, 10-12, 11-8) and 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-4) on courts No. 4 and 5, respectively. Alexandra Imperiale '19 claimed the No. 6 position, 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-8), Annie Ferreira '17 won 3-0 on court No. 7 (11-9, 11-4, 11-6), and Alessandra Lampietti '19 took the No. 8 spot, 3-0 (11-6, 11-2, 11-3).

NO. 22 COLBY 7, NO. 20 WESLEYAN 2
The Cardinals dropped the nightcap to NESCAC foe Colby, 7-2. Wesleyan picked up wins on the No. 1 court and No. 8 court. Samy claimed a 3-0 sweep in the top spot with wins of 11-6, 11-4, 11-8, and Lampietti grabbed a 3-0 victory in the No. 8 position with wins of 11-7, 11-9, 11-9.

Wesleyan is off tomorrow before returning to action Sunday, January 17 for day three action at the Pioneer Valley Invitational. The Cardinals will face George Washington at Mount Holyoke at 10 a.m.
