The Lead: The No. 24 Wesleyan University women's squash team dropped its first match of the day to No. 21 Hamilton College, 5-4, but rebounded with a 7-2 victory over No. 28 Mount Holyoke College Saturday afternoon in its 2016-17 season-opener.

HAMILTON MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Cardinals picked up wins from the No. 1, No. 6, No. 8 and No. 9 positions.
  • At the top of the lineup, All-American Laila Samy '19 swept Lillie Simourian by scores of 11-5, 11-2, 11-4.
  • Ale Lampietti '19 won a thriller in the No. 6 spot over Perry Von Stade, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7.
  • Freshmen Sherly Francois and Sofia Melian-Morse each won their first collegiate matches as they swept the No. 8 and No. 9 positions.

MT. HOLYOKE MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Wesleyan claimed the No. 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 spots in its second match of the day.
  • Samy earned another sweep from the top of the lineup.
  • In the No. 4 spot, Ali Imperiale '19 claimed a 3-1 win over Lessly Portillo by sores of 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 11-1.
  • Josie Russ, Lampietti and Nina Premutico '20 took the No. 5, 6 and 7 positions, respectively, with 3-0 sweeps.
  • Francois and Melian-Morse each finished 2-0 on the day as they both swept their opponents. Francois played in the No. 8 spot and Melian-Morse played in the No. 9.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cardinals are back in action Friday, Dec. 2 and will host a three-day Round Robin Tournament.
