Murphy Places 13th Overall In 100-Meter Backstroke Event at NCAA Championships

SHENANDOAH, Texas – Freshman Caroline Murphy of the Wesleyan University women's swimming and diving team swam in the 100-meter backstroke event at the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday.

The Gardiner, N.Y. native swam the 100 meters in 55.92 in the preliminaries, which was good enough for 11th overall. A total of 35 swimmers took part in the event.

In the consolation finals, Murphy touched the wall with a time of 55.90, which gave her 13th place overall. 

Murphy, who earned All-NESCAC accolades for her performance at the league championships, became the first member of the women's swimming & diving team to win a NESCAC Championship, as she won the 50-yard backstroke event in a school record time of 26.18. She also claimed second in the 100-yard backstroke event, as she set another school record with a mark of 55.64.
