KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Eudice Chong '18 and Aashli Budhiraja '18 of the No. 8 Wesleyan University women's tennis won their respective matches at the 2016 NCAA Division III Individual Tennis Championships Friday afternoon on the campus of host school Kalamazoo College. Chong advanced to her second singles finals appearance, while Chong and Budhijara advanced to tomorrow's doubles semifinals.
Chong went 2-0 to advance to Saturday's finals, which will pit the defending National Champion against Juli Raventos of Williams. Chong's only two loses this year have come against Raventos. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Chong and Budhiraja will take the court for doubles action at 11:30 a.m. They will face the team of Kathleen Kuosman and Caroline Ward of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. If Chong and Budhijara advance, they will face the winner of Tiffany Cheng/Joulia Likhanskaia (Bowdoin) and Raventos/Linda Shin (Williams) match at 2:30.
- In a rematch of last year's finals, Chong cruised to a straight set victory over Likhanskaia by an impressive score of 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals.
- The semifinals match was closely contested between Chong and Ria Gerger of Middlebury. A back-and-forth first set saw Chong prevail with a 7-6 victory in a tiebreak. Chong cruised in the second set to advance to her second finals appearence in as many years, winning the second set by a score of 6-2.
- The team of Budhiraja and Chong defeated Clementina Davila and Lindsey Liles of Sewanee by a score of 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals.
