  • Chong Named DIII Honda Athlete of the Year Nominee for Tennis

    For the third consecutive year, Eudice Chong ’18 of the Wesleyan University women’s tennis team was named the Division III Honda Athlete of the Year nominee for tennis, as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.

    Eudice Chong ’18 of the Wesleyan University women’s tennis team swept the 2017 NCAA Division III Individual Championships Saturday, as she claimed her third consecutive singles title and later won her first doubles crown alongside Victoria Yu ’19. Chong is the first Division III women’s tennis player since 2004 to win both the singles and doubles championship in the same year.

In addition, the duo advanced to the doubles semifinals with a commanding win in the quarterfinal round later in the day.

    For the second time in just over a week, NESCAC rivals Wesleyan University and Bowdoin College met in a postseason match, as the No. 8 Polar Bears edged the seventh-ranked Cardinals in the third round of the NCAA Division III Championships on Sunday, 5-4.
  • No. 7 Women’s Tennis Cruises Past No. 22 MIT in NCAA Second Round, 5-0

    The No. 7 Wesleyan University women’s tennis team cruised to a 5-0 sweep over No. 22 MIT in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships and has advanced to the Round of 16 for a second consecutive season. It was the Cardinals’ second win over the Engineers this season, as they defeated them 8-1 on April 8.

    MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Senior Meredith Smith of the Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team and sophomore Victoria Yu of the women’s tennis team have been recognized for their stellar performances both academically and athletically, and were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

    Eudice Chong ’18 and Victoria Yu ’19 of the No. 7 Wesleyan University women’s tennis team, and Steven Chen ’18 of the No. 5 Wesleyan men’s tennis team have qualified for the 2017 NCAA Division III Individual Championships. Additionally, Michael Liu ’17 and Jake Roberts ’17 were named doubles alternates on the men’s side.

    The accolades continue to pile up for junior Eudice Chong of the No. 7 Wesleyan University women’s tennis team as she was named the 2017 NESCAC Player of the Year for the second time in her career Thursday, as voted on by the league’s coaches. In addition, doubles partner and sophomore Victoria Yu continues to excel and was named a first team selection in doubles and a second team selection in singles play.

    The No. 7 Wesleyan University women’s tennis team returns to the NCAA Division III Team Championships for the second consecutive season and third time overall, and earned a first round bye. The Cardinals (11-4) will play the winner of No. 22 MIT (12-8) and Gwynedd Mercy (14-0) in the second round on Saturday, May 13 at 2:30 p.m. at the host site, Bowdoin College.

    The Wesleyan University women’s tennis team – ranked No. 8 in the country – finished the regular season with a 5-3 NESCAC record and 11-3 overall mark to earn the No. 4 seed in the 2017 NESCAC Women’s Tennis Championships hosted by Williams College. The Cardinals will face fifth-seeded Bowdoin College in the First Round on Friday, May 5 at 1 p.m.

Additionally, Chong reached the finals in the singles bracket.
