  • Chong and Yu's Impressive Run at ITA Fall Nationals Comes to an End

    For the first time since last April, Eudice Chong ’18 and Victoria Yu ’19 lost a doubles match. The defending NCAA and ITA National Champions had their incredible run ended on Friday afternoon at the hands of Ole Miss, defeating them 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the ITA Fall National Championships.

    As defending NCAA and ITA Division III National Champions, Eudice Chong ‘18 and Victoria Yu ‘19 are a known entity with their usual competition. Today, they announced themselves to the rest of college tennis with straight sets win over the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the opening round of the ITA Fall National Championships.

    Eudice Chong ’18 and Victoria Yu ’19 of the Wesleyan University women’s tennis team continue to roll, as the duo won the 2017 ITA Oracle Cup Women’s Doubles Championship Sunday by defeating Hanna Volikova and Alina Kislitskaya of the University of Indianapolis by scores of 6-4, 6-2. With the win, Chong and Yu earn a berth to the ITA Fall National Championships which will take place Nov. 1-5 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif.
  • Women's Tennis Claims Pair of Doubles Titles at NEWITT's

    The Wesleyan University women’s tennis team went two-for-two in title matches on the third day of the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, claiming championships in both the B and C draws of the event. Nicole McCann ’18 and Alissa Nakamoto ’21 were winners in the B draw, and Julia Kim ’20 and Daniela Alvarez ’21 took home the C draw.

    The Wesleyan University women’s tennis due of Eudice Chong ’18 and Victoria Yu ’19 continues to dominate, as Chong claimed the singles title at the 2017 Division III ITA Oracle Cup as well as the doubles crown alongside Yu on Saturday at Berry College.

    On a busy second day of the NEWITT championships, Wesleyan University women’s tennis fought from morning until sunset and emerged with two pairings still remaining across two different flights. The duos of Nicole McCann ’18 and Alissa Nakamoto ’21 as well as Julia Kim ’20 and Daniela Alvarez ’21 won two matches each to advance to the finals on Sunday.

    Day One of the ITA Oracle Cup was a successful one for the Wesleyan University women’s tennis team, with Eudice Chong ‘18 opening the tournament with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 win over Briana Hartman of Gustavus Adolphus. Later in the day, Chong paired with Victoria Yu ‘19 to defeat New York University’s Flyora Shiyanova and Coco Kulle in doubles action 6-0, 6-0.

    Eudice Chong ’18 led the Wesleyan University women’s tennis team on Day 2 of the ITA Regional Championships, winning two singles and two doubles matches alongside Victoria Yu ’19, the only other Cardinal still competing at the tournament. Chong was pushed more in her two singles matches than she was yesterday, but found her way through both matches in straight sets to book a place in the semifinals tomorrow.
  • Three Women's Tennis Players Advance at ITA Regionals

    Aashli Budhiraja ’18 finished Day 1 of the ITA Regional Championships as one of only four unseeded players still competing in the singles draw, first defeating Justine Hanson of Gordon College 6-2, 6-0 before fighting her way to a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 win over Bowdoin’s Tasha Christ. In the round of 16, Budhiraja is joined by top-seeded Eudice Chong ’18, who lost only one game in her two singles matches. Chong first beat Bowdoin’s Maddie Rolph 6-0, 6-0, then took out Amherst’s Maddie Dewire 6-1, 6-0.

    Defending NCAA Doubles Champions Eudice Chong ’18 and Victoria Yu ’19 cruised through a pair of doubles matches to book a spot in the finals of the MIT Invitational on Day 2 of action. The duo has dropped just five games on their way to the final, where they will look to defend their title from a year ago at the same event.

    Unlike the first two days of the MIT Invitational, Day 3 was short and sweet for the Wesleyan University women’s tennis team. Eudice Chong ’18 and Victoria Yu ’19 were the only Cardinals in action, and the pair held true to their No. 1 seed, successfully completing their run to the doubles championship at the event by defeating Vickie Ip and Kelsey Chen of Amherst, 8-1.
  • Women’s Tennis Opens 2017 Season with Solid Showing in Day 1 Action at MIT Invite

    Alissa Nakamoto ’21 began her collegiate career for the eighth-ranked Wesleyan University women’s tennis team with a perfect 3-0 record on Day 1 of the MIT Invitational, making her one of three Wesleyan players in the singles quarterfinals, and — along with partner Nicole McCann ’18 — one of the Cardinals’ two doubles quarterfinalist teams. Classmates Zoe Klass-Warch and Polina Kiseleva also notched their first career victories in the first round of singles competition.
