Women’s Tennis Cruises to 9-0 Sweep in Dual-Match Opener Over No. 13 Washington (Mo.)

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In its first dual-match of the 2017-18 season, the No. 8 nationally-ranked Wesleyan University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 sweep over No. 13 Washington (Mo.) University on Monday afternoon in Claremont, Calif.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Cardinals claimed doubles play convincingly as the No. 1 duo and defending national champions Eudice Chong '18 and Victoria Yu '19 defeated Grace Deering and Ally Persky by a score of 8-2.
  • In the No. 2 spot, Polina Kiseleva '21 and Alissa Nakamoto '21 won 8-3, and Nicole McCann '18 and Helen Klass-Warch '19 took No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
  • In singles action, Chong defeated 18th-ranked Deering by consecutive scores of 6-2.
  • Yu, unranked in singles play, earned a commanding 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 17 Ashley Lessen.
  • Aashli Budhiraja '18 won No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-4), Kiseleva claimed No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-4), and Klass-Warch took the No. 6 position (6-3, 6-2).
  • Nakamoto rallied from a first set loss, 6-3, and claimed the next two frames (6-3, 10-6) to defeat Sanjna Tripathy in No. 5 singles.
