Women’s Track & Field Earns Two Runner-Up Finishes at Last Chance Meet

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Wesleyan University women's track & field team recorded a trio of top-three finishes on Saturday during the Last Chance Meet at Tufts University in Medford, Mass., as freshman star Ivie Uzamere finished second with a school record of 17.45 meters in the weight throw.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Junior standout Jenny Aguiar came away with a runner-up performance in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 58.35.
  • Junior Julia Mitchell posted a mark of 5:05.00 in the 1-mile run, which was good for third place out of 12 competitors.
  • Uzamere, who hails from White Plains, N.Y., also compiled a mark of 12.31 in the shot put, and sophomore Sara Pinsonault clocked a time of 10:33.09 in the 3,000m.

  • Next on the agenda for the Cardinals will be the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship on Friday-Saturday in Birmingham, Ala., as Uzamere will compete in the weight throw.
