MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Sophomore Ivie Uzamere of the Wesleyan women's track and field team was honored with the Carla Coffee Award for being tabbed the 2019 New England Division III Top Field Athlete. Awards are presented by the New England Division III Track & Field Coaches Association for the top male and female athlete in both track and field.
Uzamere had an outstanding sophomore season that culminated with winning the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor weight throw event. Her winning-mark of 19.36m was a personal best, earning her the National Champion title. Uzamere was just the fourth track & field athlete to win a National Championship and first ever in a field event. Her winning mark also shattered her own school record (17.45m) that she set back in 2018 and earned her the 10th furthest throw in Division III history. The last National Champion was Ellen Davis '07 who won the indoor 5k in 2007.
Kaitlyn Mooney of the United States Coast Guard Academy won the Carolyn Court Award for the Top Track athlete, following her National Championship win in the 5,000 meters. Her time of 16:23.12 broke the Division III record that was set in 2016.
