Women’s Track & Field Earns Fourth-Place Finish at Amherst Spring Fling

AMHERST, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's track and field team earned a fourth-place finish out of seven teams at the Amherst Spring Fling on Saturday. The team also had two athletes compete at Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational. The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday when they head to the Connecticut College Invite.

AMHERST SPRING FLING HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Jenny Aguiar placed first in the 200m dash with a time of 26.07, while Katie Maehl was first in the high jump with a height of 1.55m. Ivie Uzamere also recorded a first-place finish, registering a personal-best mark of 49.17m.
  • Third place finishes came from Aguiar in the 100m (12.88), Claudia Schatz in the 800m (2:22.08) and Uzamere in the shot (10.81m).
  • Personal best performances included Caelan Campbell in the 100m (13.19) and 200m (26.84) and Maehl in the 200m (27.95), 100m hurdles (16.23) and the javelin (37.90m). Sophie Scobell and Nora Markey both posted personal best times in the 1500m, clocking in at 5:06.50 and 5:31.53, respectively.

SAM HOWELL INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

  • In a field primarily of Division I athletes, Julia Mitchell came in eighth in the 1500m with a time of 4:44.13, while Becky Lopez-Anido placed 12th in the 800m with a time of 2:18.26.
  • Rhoen Fiutak also competed in the 1500m, clocking in at 4:56.38 which was good for 28th place.
