HADLEY, Mass. – Freshman Gabby Bennett of the Wesleyan University women's volleyball team was named the NESCAC Co-Player of the Week, alongside Annika Reczek of Amherst College, for her stellar performance last week.
The Cardinals improved their winning streak to seven consecutive games after a 4-0 stretch, and are now 8-1 on the season. Bennett played an instrumental role in the team's success, and played in three of the four games. She averaged 2.18 kills per set and an impressive .538 hitting percentage, while also averaging 0.64 blocks per set. Her best performance of the week came against Eastern Connecticut State, as she totaled 11 kills on 12 attempts for an incredible .833 attack mark. Wesleyan won, 3-1.
Bennett is enjoying a great start to her young career, and currently leads the NESCAC in hitting percentage (.380) and also ranks eighth in blocks per set (0.86).
Through nine games, Wesleyan has already surpassed last year's win total (5) and has two more wins in conference play than a year ago. The Cardinals currently sit in a tie for first place in the NESCAC, alongside Tufts and Conn. College, and will face the Jumbos Friday night in Silloway Gym at 7 p.m. They remain home the following day for a 1 p.m. contest against Bowdoin.
