MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Rachel Savage '17 of the Wesleyan University volleyball team was honored for her excellence in the classroom and on the court Thursday, as she was named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Volleyball Team.

The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Savage was one of nine NCAA Division III student-athletes from District II to earn recognition. The molecular biology and biochemistry major is also a two-time NESCAC All-Academic recipient.

Savage is a co-captain and leader of a young Wesleyan team that is currently 15-7 overall and 6-4 in the NESCAC, and has earned the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament; the Cardinals' first postseason appearance since 2010. Savage, a defensive specialist, ranks second on the team in digs with an average of 2.62 per set.

Wesleyan will play Amherst Friday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. in the NESCAC Quarterfinals hosted by Tufts.
