Mental Health Message

Important Message on Mental Health:

Mental health is an important and often overlooked dimension of overall student-athlete health and optimal functioning.  It exists on a continuum, with resilience and thriving on one end of the spectrum and mental health disorders that disrupt a student-athlete’s functioning and performance at the other.

Here at Wesleyan, we support our student-athletes' mental health and want you to be aware of the on-campus Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), http://www.wesleyan.edu/caps/index.html located at Davidson Health Center. Feel free to contact CAPS prior to your arrival at Wesleyan if you have questions about services or community resources (860-685-2910).

Make an appointment by calling 860/685-2910 during work hours 9:00 am-4:30 pm.

If you feel like you need to be seen the day you call, ask for a crisis appointment. Crisis is a strong word but these appointments are ultimately same day appointment openings for a student who is experiencing any kind of immediate stress and concerns.

CAPS is also available after hours as a hotline. Call 860-685-2910 to talk with a counselor if you experience distress overnight.

Jennie Setaro is the designated Athletics Liaison in CAPS and Athletic Trainer Laura Litwin is her counterpart at the Freeman Athletic Center to help connect student-athletes with the on-campus services laid out above. Feel free to reach out to Laura or any of the the Athletic Trainers with concerns or questions.

Things people use CAPS for:
-Time management help
-Disordered eating
-Adjusting to college life
-Help with roommate issues or other inter-personal relationships
-Depression and anxiety
-Stress management
-Grief counseling
-Identity Issues
