Devon Carrillo '17 Honored at 76th Gold Key Dinner

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – On Sunday, April 30th, dual-sport athlete Devon Carrillo '17 of the Wesleyan University football and wrestling teams was awarded with the 2017 Connecticut Male Athlete of the Year award during the 76th Annual Gold Key Dinner at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, Conn.

Carrillo was named the CT Male Athlete of the Year in March – as voted on by the Connecticut Sports Writers' Alliance – and received the award in front of 375 people during the Gold Key Dinner Sunday. WNBA guard Bria Holmes of the Atlanta Dream was selected as the CT Female Athlete of the Year.

The senior from Middletown was honored alongside NFL star Dwight Freeney from Bloomfield, Farmington High School Soccer Head Coach Steve Waters, former Cheshire High School Swim Head Coach Ed Astin, and five-time Olympian archer Butch Johnson, who all received Gold Keys.

Carrillo is the first Wesleyan University, Middletown High School, and Middletown native to be named the CT Male Athlete of the Year. For more information regarding the award, click HERE.
