Colorado Springs, CO – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) named the Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams to its Scholar All-America team for the Spring 2019 Semester. A record 480 institutions were named to the list, highlighted by St. Andrews’s women's GPA of 3.35.
AUSTIN, Texas – Tim Sestak ’20 of the Wesleyan men’s ice hockey team and Victoria Yu ’19 of the women’s tennis team were earned Google Cloud Academic All-America honors as selected by the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-American At-Large Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletics and in the classroom.
The bar continues to rise for Wesleyan Athletics as the Cardinals finished 14th overall out of 338 schools that registered points in the 2018-19 Division III Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings. Wesleyan, following another historic spring season, recorded its highest finish ever in the 24th annual Directors' Cup with a total of 602 points. It is now the fifth straight season in which the Cardinals have moved up the standings, continuing their climb to be one of the top Division III athletic programs in the country.
Athletic Communications Assistant Ali Paquette of Wesleyan University was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her 'We Are Wes' feature story on Cardinals' superfan Brian O'Rourke of O'Rourke's Diner in Middletown. Paquette's piece was chosen as the national winner of the general feature story category in CoSIDA's Fred Stabley, Sr. Writing Contest.
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Four Cardinals were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large First Teams for District 2 as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday evening. The 2018-19 awards are selected by CoSIDA and recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletics and in the classroom. Carter Hawthorne (men’s lacrosse), Zach Murillo (wrestling) and Tim Sestak (men’s ice hockey) were awarded spots on the 13-person First Team, while Victoria Yu (women’s tennis) was one of 11 females selected for the honor.
The Wesleyan University spring athletic teams put a total of 102 student-athletes on the 2019 NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team, while eight Cardinals earned All-Sportsmanship honors as announced by the conference on Friday afternoon. A total of 994 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team, while 112 earned spots on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan Athletic Department invites the community to attend its first-ever Team IMPACT Honor Day on Saturday, April 20th, where the Cardinals will celebrate current Team IMPACT players, as well as honor those that we have lost. There will be a special ceremony at halftime of the men’s lacrosse game where Team IMPACT players and their families will be celebrated at center field. The game is slated for noon on Smith Field pending weather.
Fourteen senior student-athletes have been elected into Wesleyan University’s Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa for Spring 2019 – the most prestigious academic honor society in the country. They will be honored at an induction ceremony on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 4 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel.

On Sunday, April 28, 2019, the Wesleyan Student-Athlete of Color Leadership Council (SACLC) will host the second annual Cardinal Community Classic 3v3 Basketball Tournament to benefit the Schultz-Witkowski Fund at the Middlesex Health Cancer Center, with the primary goal to support cancer patients facing financial hardship.
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – This weekend Wesleyan’s spring teams will be dedicating their games to raising concussion awareness through the Headway Foundation. The Headway Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to promote a safe sports culture, provide resources about concussions and advocate for enhanced concussion evaluation protocols and accessibility.
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University winter athletic teams put a total of 73 student-athletes on the 2019 NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team, while eight Cardinals earned All-Sportsmanship honors as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon. A total of 864 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team, while 85 earned spots on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
During the month of March, the Wesleyan University Athletic Department would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of its Athletic Injury Care staff as the Connecticut Athletic Trainers’ Association (CATA) celebrates National Athletic Trainers Month.
The third annual Wesleyan Athletics Giving Days (WAGD) is quickly approaching! WAGD is a competitive fundraising initiative bringing together donors in support of Wesleyan Athletics. For three days, athletic teams will compete for the greatest percentage of donor participation for their sport. At the end of the competition, the highest scoring team – one men’s and one women’s – each wins $5,000 for their most critical needs.

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University fall athletic teams put a total of 57 student-athletes on the 2018 NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team, while eight Cardinals earned All-Sportsmanship honors as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon. A total of 639 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team, while 84 earned spots on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Wesleyan University has announced the addition of women’s golf to its list of varsity sports beginning in the fall of 2019. Women’s golf will become the 30th varsity sport and the 15th for women at Wesleyan while becoming the eighth school in the NESCAC to sponsor the sport. Jon Wilson, a PGA professional at Lyman Orchards, has been named the head coach of the program.
Wesleyan University has announced its 2018 Athletics Hall of Fame class, which will be inducted Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 during Homecoming Weekend. The ninth class features James Carrier ’42, Phillip Rockwell ’65, Allison Palmer ’95, Jed Hoyer ’96, Flo Stueck ’96 and Herb Kenny.
